Winterizing Home: Keep Your Home Cozy and Energy-Efficient This Season

Right before the winters knock on the doors, Winterizing becomes an essential thing to do. By winterizing, we mean both indoors and outdoors must be protected before the chilly winters and cold breezes commence. There are a lot of ways winterizing can be done.

So, keep aside your drinks and get ready to protect your home because, in no time, you will be sipping up that hot coffee of yours with the blankets on. Let’s take a look:

1.Check the Insulation:

To get your home winter-ready, you must check the insulation in your attics. If your home consists of proper insulation, then the entire home will have an uninterrupted airflow. There will be no leakage of cozy warm air outside the home. Your home will be kept warm throughout winter with proper insulation.

2. Clean Gutters:

One of the most important steps to protect your home from winter is cleaning the gutters. Yes, it is very essential, as clogged or choked gutters will hinder the passing of snow. Clean them and get rid of the debris before the snow hits your home. Also, remove the leaves and brush off roof sand grit for effective drainage.

3. Inspect the Dryer Vents:

During the winter season, the use of heaters and other room heating appliances increases naturally. Before you start those heaters, make sure to inspect the air vents. They must be cleansed properly along with the removal of dirt, debris, or lint. If clogged, the air will pass throughout the home, and the heaters will not work effectively.

4. Inspect your Smoke Detectors:

With a significant drop in temperature, heaters and other electronic appliances start emitting heat. However, ensuring safety is a must. Before winter commences, make sure the smoke detectors have been inspected and that the batteries have been replaced on time.

5. Protect Windows and Doors:

To prevent the cold breeze from entering your house, make sure that the weather stripping has been done. Door sweeps or installing storm doors and windows will protect your home from unwanted cold and keep it warm.

6. Fireplace:

During summers, the fireplace tends to become a home to some of the birds or other creatures. However, right before winter, inspecting the fireplace and removing the dirt and debris, will ensure smooth running throughout the season. It is highly recommended to check the chimney before the season starts.

7. Protecting Pipes:

Yes, the chances of bursting pipes during extreme weather conditions, become common yet hazardous. So, installing rolled pipe wrap or tubular pipe wrap, will not only strengthen the pipes but will increase the lifespan and prevent them from potential damage.

Getting your home winterized is very essential and it will protect your home in the long run. However, always make sure that the inspections are carried out without delay.

As the winters are near, why not start preparing for it now? Get your home winterized, as there’s less time left before you snuggle up in a warm blanket on your couch.
